Good Sleep, Delish Smoothie & Intuition Tip

I've been thinking about deep, easy, satisfying sleep these days.

The kind that feels like "should" be happening mid-winter with the cozy early darkness and the quiet evenings.

But for me, right now, it's not.

When my hormones are off, I suffer. Sleep is not easy or long or deep. It is shallow and short and filled with discomfort.

Hormones for me, have been one of my bodies greatest challenges. I've worked with balancing them for a decade and I go in and out of feeling amazing, to feeling like a shell of myself.

I share this with you this week because I know of the importance of taking into account one's mental and physical health through the lens of hormones. Too often women are diagnosed improperly because the practitioner doesn't factor in hormones.

So please, if you are feeling "off", depressed, exhausted, disconnected, lonely, anxious, unmotivated (and on and on) please ask for your hormones to be evaluated.

Intuition Tip:

CAN YOU RELATE?

Sometimes when I do this exercise I feel like I'm watching myself from outside myself, like I'm in a movie or a play. When I feel this way, I know it's been way too long since I've slowed down, mindfully embodied my body and focused on the present moment.

TRY THIS:

Uplug from all electronics (this includes headphones, cell phone, tv screen, computer screens, etc). Take a walk in a familiar space (around your house or your office or your yard) and "extra-notice" things that are around you. Say them out loud. There is a couch. There is a plant. A light. A dog. A coffee table. A tree. A birdbath. (You can make it more fun and say "Hi lovely birdbath! Hello you powerful oak!) Notice with your eyes and your ears. Do this for 3-5 minutes approximately (don't time it because then you will be looking at and anticipating your phone!)

WHY THIS WORKS:

This exercise will help you clear out the static that clogs up your intuitive channel. We so often live in the past (I should I have said that!) or anticipating the future (ahhhh!! what's to come?!), that we don't receive the intuitive messages that are coming in right this moment. "Noticing"/paying attention to what is happening in the present moment is the key to connecting with and getting clear guidance from your intuition.

A green smoothie to start your day with:

I've made this smoothie on and off for years. Here's what I put in it (try to buy organic ingredients if possible):

Fill the bottom of the blender with about 2 cups of water (I just eyeball the amount)

  • 2 large handfuls of power greens, cut up lettuce, or any green leafy veggie

  • 4 large celery stalks cut up

  • 1 large apple cut up

  • 1/2 an avocado

  • One full lemon, peeled and chopped in half.

  • A thumb size piece of peeled fresh ginger

  • 1/2 of a large English cucumber (but any cuc will do).

When I drink this in the morning I feel satisfied that I've already had a good-size portion of greens!

That's it! I have a Vitamix so it's easy to blend, but I've also used a traditional blender and it works, it's just ends up a bit more on the chunky side.
